He's missed so many now at almost 12 years.
They come and go like clockwork etched on my heart and in my soul.
Always remembered.
And, while they can bring a sting to my heart and mist to my eyes, they also generation smiles and gratitudes for the years spent together and the memories made.
Our Grand MunKee is 1 day from a long awaited and often mistracked goal...graduation from high school with an honest by god diploma.
The ending is not traditional, but, thanks to someone who cared enough to go the extra mile, she has done it.
And, while I am sad that he is not here to see it, I think he would be proud of her for sticking to it even when near the end it looked as if it might not happen.
I know I am.
His spirit will be with all of us when she walks across that stage in June and receives that simple piece of paper that says she meets all the state's educational requirements for graduation.
Some say she doesn't deserve it because of the intervention.
To that I say BULL SHIT!!
She completed all the work assigned...no one did a single assigment for her and she made up all the tests. She worked hard enough to make A's in three of the classes netting her exam exemptions in those. The last she will have to take the test, but completed the work assigned though many days were missed.
There have been many people who have encouraged her beyond myself...some she does not even know. But, they know of her through my sharing her story with them. They are her cheering squad though she cannot hear them.
She has a plan and has taken preliminary steps towards that plan.
Her future, while not secured, is bright because of this accomplishment.
What happens next is up to her.
So, congratulations my Grand MunKee. You have earned this. Your feet are on a solid path.
